Matar Paneer Recipe!

Matar paneer is a gravy/curry that goes well with roti, naan, chapati, and pulao. The gravy can be prepared using fresh peas as well as frozen peas. The base of this dish is an onion-tomato ground mixture. This dish is always a hit at parties. The base can be made in advance and the curry can be made in less than half an hour and its a huge time saver when you are making a lot of other dishes or when you have a very busy week.


Ingredients:


Paneer -150gms (Cut into cubes)

Peas - 100 gms

Onion - 1 big

Tomato - 2 small

ginger - 1 inch

garlic -5 small cloves

turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Kashmiri red chili powder - 1 tbsp

coriander powder - 1 tsp

Garam masala powder - 1 tsp

Cumin powder - 1 tsp

Cinnamon - 1 stick

Bay leaf- 1

Cashews - 5

oil/butter - 4 tbsp

Salt- as needed.

Steps:

  1. In a pan add 2 tbsp of oil/butter and add in the onions. Saute until it is translucent and add in the ginger, garlic. Saute for 1 min and add in the tomatoes.

  2. Once the tomatoes are mushy, add the cashews and saute it for a minute and switch off the flame. Let it cool down and grind the mixture to a smooth paste

  3. In the same pan, add 2 tbsp of oil. Once it is hot, add cinnamon, bay leaf. Now add the ground mixture and add in all the masalas, salt,and mix well. Let it cook for 10 minutes under medium heat.

  4. Add the peas, paneer and mix gently. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve it hot with Roti, chapati, fried rice, jeera rice. Enjoy!
