I wanted to try my kids favorite tater tots and wanted it to be healthy at the same time. So I decided to bake them instead of frying. It turned out yummy. There is not much difference between fried and baked tater tots apart from extra crispiness in the fried ones. Russell potatoes are very good for this recipe and it maintains the texture. Inorder to retain the texture the potatoes should neither be hard or soft. It should be little soft but still when grated needs to maintain it’s texture. Now let’s look into the recipe.

Ingredients:

  1. Russell potato- 1

  2. Garlic powder – 1tsp

  3. Onion powder – 1tsp

  4. Red chilli powder – 1 tsp

  5. Oregano – 1/4 tsp

  6. Corn flour – 1tsp

  7. Rice flour – 1tsp

  8. Bread crumbs as needed

  9. Black pepper – 1/4 tsp

  10. Salt as needed

Steps

1. Remove the potato skin and place the potatoes in a pot with water. Boil the potatoes for 2 minutes. The potato should be neither hard nor soft. When you let your fork in it should go in, but the potato should not be mushy

2. Grate the potato and add in the red chilli powder, oregano, pepper, onion and garlic powder. Add salt and mix everything.

3. Grease your hand with little oil and shape your potato mixture into small balls or the shape you like

4. Preheat the oven to 425F. Make a thin watery mixture of corn and rice flour. Now dip the shaped potatoes in this corn flour mixture and coat it with bread crumbs

5. Place all the potatoes in a baking tray and spray some oil on the top. Now bake it for 17-20 minutes or until it turns crispy

Enjoy your tater tots with your ketchup.
