I used to make idlis at least twice in a week. Idli’s freeze well too. So even if I make some extra idlis I will freeze them for making chilli idlis later. Usually for chilli idlis they are fried but I try to avoid frying the idlis so instead I bake them. It is good as a snack with a hot tea/coffee. Can be made as an appetizer for parties as well.

Recipe:

Ingredients

  1. Idlis – 6

  2. Onion – 1 medium thinly sliced

  3. Garlic – 2 chopped very finely

  4. Chilli sauce – 1 1/2 tbsp

  5. Tomato sauce – 1/2 tsp

  6. Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp

  7. Salt as needed

  8. Curry leaves – few

  9. Coriander leaves for garnishing

Steps to follow:

1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Cut the idlis into bite sized pieces. Spray some oil on the idlis and bake them for 10 mins.

2. Heat a tbsp of oil and fry the onions till they are golden brown. Add in the chopped garlic and curry leaves and fry for a minute.

3. Now add the chilli sauce, tomato sauce and fry for a minute. Add in the idlis and coat them well with the sauces

4. Add in some salt and pepper . Please make sure to add in less salt as the sauce and idli already has salt in it. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot
